We are committed to creating a healthy and vibrant Housing system for our Citizens that will contribute to the health and well-being of our Community and encourage tenants and homeowners to take pride of their homes
We aim to offer a wide range of programs which will enable and encourage householders to take responsibility of their dwelling in order to maximize their comfort and home enjoyment.
Who we are:
- Garden River First Nation has 2,951 registered members
- 1,162 registered members live on the First Nation
- Garden River First Nation Housing Department manages the First Nations largest asset worth over $35 million
The following programs and services are available:
Section 95 Program - Housing is available through this program in either a rental or rent to own format
RRAP - Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program:offers financial assistance to repair substandard to homes to a minimum level of health and safety and to improve the accessibility of housing for disabled persons.Households who have a limited income, may be eligible to receive funding if their house lacks basic facilities or is in need of major repair in one of more of the following categories: structural, electrical, plumbing, heating or fire safety.
HASI - Home Adaption for Senior Independence Program: The program helps homeowners and landlords pay for minor home adaptations to extend the time low-income seniors can live in their own homes independently
Emergency Renovation Loan - Funding available for emergency situations
On-Reserve Mortgage Program - Mortgages are offered to Band Members who wish to own their home or intend on performing major renovations to their existing home.
